On the 21st of October the event “800 years of charity: from the plague to Covid-19. The history of the Movement of Mercies” took place at Palazzo Borromeo at the invitation of Pietro Sebastiani, Italian Ambassador to the Holy See, and Domenico Giani, President of the National Confederation of Italian Mercies.
After the greeting speeches of Ambassador Sebastiani and President Giani, the event saw the participation of: Roberto Speranza, Italian Minister of Health; Eugenio Giani, President of the Tuscan Region; Dario Nardella, Mayor of Florence; Laura Rossi from the Mercy of Florence; Gianni Letta and H.E. Cardinal Giuseppe Betori, Archbishop of Florence. Moderator: Lucia Goracci, journalist.
The event comes from the desire to make known the history of a movement that has stood the test of centuries, gaining strength and diversifying its activities. Nowadays it counts 700 branches all over Italy (several all over the world), 670.000 members, over 100.000 active volunteers.
