On 6 September 2021 Professor Alberto Melloni and H.E. Cardinal Dominique Mamberti met at Palazzo Borromeo to dialogue about the contribution of the “Roncalli style” to pontifical diplomacy.
On that occasion, Marina Sereni, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, awarded Professor Alberto Melloni with the honor of Commander of the Order of the Star of Italy, on the proposal of the Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See Pietro Sebastiani, for his absolute importance and expertise in the promotion of the role of religion in Italian society, for his commitment to interreligious dialogue and for his constant and fruitful cooperation with this Embassy and with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Explaining the reasons for this honor, Deputy Minister Sereni and Ambassador Sebastiani highlighted the prestigious academic profile of Professor Melloni, his intense activity as publicist and his commitment to editorial and cultural initiatives, that made him a key point of reference among researchers of history of religions and of interreligious dialogue, as evidenced by international awards and his participation in Foundations and Academies, including the European Academy of Religion, created by him under the High Patronage of the European Parliament.
