On May 4th, 2021, in the cloister of Palazzo Borromeo, in the presence of a limited audience, Pietro Sebastiani, Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See, awarded H.E. Msgr. Stefano Russo, Secretary General of the Italian Episcopal Conference, with the honor of Commander of the Order of the Star of Italy.
Msgr. Russo carried out his ministry as parish priest and in 2016 as Bishop of Fabriano-Matelica, diocese to which he was forced to give up following the impossibility of carrying out the responsibility of the pastoral government with those connected with the appointment of the Pope, Meanwhile intervened, as Secretary General of the Italian Episcopal Conference. He is currently Chairman of the Committee for the Evaluation of Intervention Projects for Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage and Religious Buildings.
Ambassador Pietro Sebastiani explained the motivation for the honor and highlighted Msgr. Russo high qualified profile and the extensive experience gained over the years in the field of management and conservation of historical and artistic heritage and, in particular, in the restoration of buildings and assets damaged by the earthquake in Central Italy. He also recognised the absolute importance of this key person in the preservation and recovery of the ecclesiastical artistic heritage of the Marche Region and Italy.
