The Embassy of Italy to the Holy See hosted in the cloister of Palazzo Borromeo, Tuesday 13 October from 5.00 pm, the conference entitled “For an economy with the leaven of equity“.
After the greetings from the Ambassador Pietro Sebastiani, Rocco Pezzimenti (Libera Università Maria SS. Assunta), Andrea Prencipe (Rector of LUISS Guido Carli) and Pietro Sirena (Università Bocconi di Milano) intervened. Video messages from Mauro Magatti (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore) and Mons.Dario Edoardo Viganò (Vice Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences) followed, who recalled the figure of Mons. Adriano Vincenzi, creator of the Festival of the Social Doctrine of the Church. Homage to Mons. Vincenzi was also offered by the testimony of Stefania Brancaccio. The conference was moderated and concluded by Claudio Gentili (Director of the scientific journal La Società).
The initiative is part of a wider series of events dedicated to the theme of work and the
economy, organized at Palazzo Borromeo with the aim of offering an opportunity to reflect on today’s economic system and to promote an open debate on its concrete possibilities for renewal, so that the economy becomes more just, inclusive and sustainable for present and future generations.
The theme of decent work and a “more just and humane” economy is on the other hand very important for the Holy See: as can be read in the Encyclical Laudato sì on care for the common home of 24 May 2015 (which for a large part was taken up by the United Nations 2030 Agenda itself) and in the Encyclical Fratelli Tutti of 3 October 2020, in the Pontificate of Pope Francis the theme of socio-economic inequalities and injustices created by an increasingly distorted market economy is predominant.
The event was broadcast live on Telepace channels (Sky HD decoder – channel 515; Tivùsat – channel 815; Digital Terrestrial Rome – channel 73; Digital Terrestrial Rome HD – channel 214) and on the website https://telepacenews.it/diretta/.
