The Embassy of Italy to the Holy See informs that H.E. Msgr. Rino Fisichella, President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, has been awarded the honor of Commander of the Order of the Star of Italy.
The awarding of the honor intends to recognize the absolute relevance of the cultural and academic profile of H.E. Msgr. Archbishop Fisichella, one of the most distinguished theologians recognized internationally. Professor of Fundamental Theology at the Gregorian University, former Rector of the Lateran University, he was chaplain for many years in the Chamber of Deputies and in 2005 received the gold medal for culture from the President of the Italian Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. Firstly appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Rome, later President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, after the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy (2015-2016) he is in charge of organizing the Jubilee of the Holy Year of 2025.
Among the reasons for conferring this honor, in addition to the highly qualified profile of H.E. Msgr. Fisichella, there is the role played in religious tourism, a key sector for the enhancement of the Italian cultural heritage, and its recognized and appreciated presence in various areas of Italian cultural life.
The honor will be conferred this evening at Palazzo Borromeo on the occasion of a dialogue between H.E. Msgr. Rino Fisichella and Prof. Francesco Bonini, Rector of the LUMSA (Libera Università degli Studi Maria Ss. Assunta di Roma), on the theme “Contemporary culture between problems and perspectives”.
